Potassium Carbonate
(potash, K2CO3, powder, sold packed in zip-lock bags)
For Solid Soaps: A purified form of “potash”, the same substance that was leached from ashes over pots and used to make soaps “in the old days”. Makes a potassium “soft soap” which was then boiled with salt added to replace potassium with sodium and make solid soaps. Trying this will make one realize how much easier modern soapmakers have it these days!
For Liquid Soaps: A 'less strong' alkali that can be used in making handcrafted liquid soap. Can also be added in small quantity to make liquid soap base paste easier to stir.
