Recipe Book

So what type of soap cookbooks do you all recommend? I've been living with the Elayne C. White "Soapmaking Recipes" for years now. Other books I have found are either downright dangerous (adding water to lye) or too heavy on the luxury ingredients.

I do experiment, but I have no clue generally how to determine appropriate lye or water temps if I stray too far from a known recipe.

Fiestagal~  I've used the same method to melt the oils....it's easy and it works.  I started using this method (for both hp and cp) when I read about it on a forum.  No mishaps, yet.  My problems usually arise from fragrance oils seizing.  That's what I get for not reading about the fragrance oils before I use them in soap!!

Hi,

I'm new to this site. I have been making soap for awhile and have taken a lot of classes. I like to learn from different teachers. I have a question about making cp soap. I viewed a video that showed making your cp soap by using you lye water to melt your oils starting with the hardest then going to your liquid oils. No temt. taking. I have tried it once and it worked fine. I have never found anyone else doing it this way.  I like doing it that way but not very sure of my self because I have never found anyone else doing it this way. What do you thinks?

I couldn't do without Soapmakers Companion for making bar soap.  It is listed under the books section on this site.  She shares the, 'how to' the science and recipes in this book.  It's great for beginners and more advanced soapers.

On the left of the page here, is a button (Books on Soapmaking) that will take you to a page with a lot of different soap making books for sale.  I bought a couple of 'online' books a few years ago off eBay.  I thought one was from this website, but in looking them over neither one of them is from Summer Bee.  One is written by Maria Vowell and was sent to me via the mail.  The other was an eBook sent to me from suthrnjewl  it has a lot of good recipes as well.  Maria's book however has great directions and wonderful tips on the do's and don't's of soapmaking.  I have no idea if either of these people are still selling their books or not.  I really like Summer Bee though, I haven't had a chance to go to all the pages as I just joined the forum today, but am making may way around, today.

Take care and good luck!

I went online and found the book I got online    http://www.homewaypress.com/soap/   I can't believe she is actually using the note I wrote to her when I first got the book.  Good luck to you and I hope this helps.
