Soap releasing agent

Hello,

Forgive me for being such a newbie but I have a question about releasing the soap from a mold. I just bought a wooden soap mold that i thought was hinged but alas not. How do you keep the soap from sticking to the mold? Is using a wooden bar soap mold a good idea? Please advise the new girl...

Thanks,

Felice

When it dawned on me that I was going to be soaping for a looooong time (thus I was/am addicted), I made a template for my wood molds with a piece of paper.  I used this template to cut out several liners from some vinyl that I picked up at Walmart..  I'm sure a shower curtain would serve the same purpose.  I've been using these for about a year, and they're still going strong.

When I was taught to make soap, we lined a cardboard box/flat/tray (the kind you find in the grocery store that 6-packs of soda come in) with an old piece of fabric.  So if your budget won't let you buy a wood soap try at this moment, try a flat with some old fabric.  Heck, we all have some old shirt we don't want anymore... that'll work!

Good luck, let us know how your first batch came out.

Thanks Ev
I had a feeling that a bag would work but I didn't want to waste time trying things and wasting product.
This weekend is my first attempt at any kind of soap making so wish my luck and good skills.
Thanks for the reply

Hi felice :)

A Note about bags! Should you decide to go that route make sure there is NO ink words on the side you put in the mold or you WILL get words all over your soap! LOL! Found this out when I did just that using a cheapo garbage bag and didn't notice it had a whole line of small type down the side of it. Used it for dog shampoo bars so no big but you may want to remember to make sure about any kind of type when you soap k. :) Best of luck and  you will do Great :)

Hi felice :)

If this works here is a video for lining a soap mold. Wooden molds always need some type of liner. Some you can find with silicone liners and yes they cost more so it's mainly up to your wallet. Mine was pretty tight when I started about a year nad a half ago. lol! it's still tight with all the things I want to buy! It's very addictive :)

or for pics and words this is a good place

I generally can't be bothered with all that so just use a plastic grocery bag or garbage bage stuff it in smooth it out and tape the ends so it doesn't slip when the soap goes in :) wether or not you let the soap gel is up to you and that includes useing towels to cover the mold. Oh yea it's a good idea to use a piece of saran wrap to cover your newly poured soap to keep any ash formation off it. Lots to learn and I have loved every minute of it! Learn more every day and forums are the best! Have fun!
